Power Receives Insurance Agent Licence, Strengthening Its Protect Offering
Helping workers protect themselves from risk has always been an important part of Power‘s vision for financial wellness.
While access to salary advances, savings, and responsible credit helps workers navigate everyday financial needs, unexpected events such as illness, accidents, or the loss of valuable assets can quickly create financial strain for individuals and their families.
We are pleased to share that Power, through our subsidiary Power Wellness Insurance Agency, has been granted an Insurance Agent licence by Kenya’s Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), enabling us to formally distribute insurance products through our Protect offering.
While Protect has historically enabled access to insurance through licensed partners, the new licence marks an important step forward in the evolution of the offering. It gives Power the ability to distribute insurance products directly, strengthening our role in helping workers access solutions through a regulated framework.
Workers can choose to pay monthly, annually, or through more customised options, removing the barrier of large upfront premiums that have historically kept quality cover out of reach for many working people.
“Protect has always been an important part of our financial wellness vision,” said Martin Ngachu, Insurance Manager at Power. “This licence allows us to build on the foundation we’ve already established with our partners and take a more active role in making insurance easier to access, understand, and pay for. We know that large upfront premiums can be a barrier for many workers, and we’re focused on creating options that better fit how people manage their finances.”
Insurance penetration remains relatively low across Kenya despite growing awareness of the role insurance can play in protecting households and supporting long-term financial stability. For many people, the challenge is not simply access to insurance products, but access to payment options that fit how they earn and manage money.
By offering greater flexibility in how premiums are paid, Power aims to make insurance more practical and accessible for everyday workers.
The licence enables us to continue expanding our Protect marketplace and working with insurers, underwriters and ecosystem partners to offer insurance products that meet the needs of workers across our network. Power will offer products directly in-app for the workforce as well as provide solutions for employers through our new Employer Marketplace.
As we continue to grow our Protect offering, our focus remains the same: helping workers build stronger financial foundations through solutions that support them today while preparing them for tomorrow.
